Rental Terms

Last updated: 30 September 2026

1. Who you are renting from

ExoWalk, 26 Marlboro Street, Cork, T12 CF7H, Ireland.

Email: info@exowalk.ie

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply when you hire a HyperShell exoskeleton from us. They form a contract of hire — the device stays our property throughout, and you are responsible for it while you have it.

Buying a device is covered by our Terms of Service and Refund and Returns Policy instead.

You accept these terms when you book. We will also ask you to sign a copy when you collect.

3. This is not a medical device

A HyperShell exoskeleton is a consumer product. It is not a medical device, it is not certified as one, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or rehabilitate any condition. It is not a substitute for medical treatment, physiotherapy, or a mobility aid prescribed to you.

If you have a health condition, an injury, a balance or mobility concern, or if you are pregnant, speak to your GP or physiotherapist before renting. We are not qualified to advise you on whether it is medically suitable for you, and we will not try to.

4. Who can rent

  • You must be 18 or over.
  • You must be within the manufacturer's stated height and weight range. We check this with you at your fitting — if you are unsure before booking, email us and we will confirm it for you.
  • You must be able to walk unaided. The device assists walking; it does not provide balance or support your body weight.
  • You must attend the fitting (clause 6) and be satisfied you can use the device safely.

We may decline a rental if we do not think it can be used safely. We will refund you in full if we do.

5. Booking, payment and identity

Rental charges are payable when you book. Prices include VAT.

When you collect, we will ask to see photo identification — a driving licence or passport. We check it, record that we have checked it, and hand it straight back. We do not photograph, copy or keep your identity documents. See clause 16.

6. The fitting is compulsory

Every rental begins with a fitting at Blackrock Castle, Cork. We size the device to you, set the assistance level, and show you how to put it on, take it off, charge it and switch it off.

You cannot take a device away without completing the fitting. This is a safety requirement, not a formality.

If you have never used an exoskeleton before, we recommend booking a free 15-minute trial first.

7. Rental period, collection and return

  • Collection and return are in person, by appointment, at Blackrock Castle, Cork.
  • The rental period starts when you collect the device and ends at the return time shown on your booking.
  • Please return the device on time. Someone else may be waiting for it.

Late returns are charged at €10 per hour, capped at the value of one further full rental period for each period begun. If a device is more than 48 hours late and you have not contacted us, clause 9 applies.

8. Looking after the device

While you have the device, you agree to:

  • use it only as shown at your fitting and as described in the manual;
  • use it yourself — do not lend, sub-hire or hand it to anyone else;
  • keep it out of heavy rain and never submerge it. It is rated IP54 for dust and splashes; it is not waterproof;
  • charge it only with the charger supplied, at between 0 °C and 40 °C;
  • not modify, dismantle, repair or attempt to service it;
  • not use it for racing, stunts, commercial filming, or any purpose it was not designed for;
  • keep it secure and out of sight when unattended;
  • tell us as soon as anything goes wrong.

If a fault develops that is not your doing, stop using it and contact us. We will repair or replace it, or refund the unused part of your rental.

9. Damage, loss and theft

You are responsible for the device from collection until we check it back in.

Fair wear and tear is expected and is not charged for. Scuffs on the shell, marks on the straps and normal use are fine.

You are liable for:

What happened What you pay
Damage beyond fair wear and tear The cost of repair, up to the replacement value
Missing accessory (charger, battery, case) The replacement cost of that item
Device not returned, lost or stolen The cost of replacing the device, up to €899

We will always show you the repair quote or the replacement cost before we charge anything, and we will never charge more than our actual loss.

If a device is stolen, report it to An Garda Síochána immediately and give us the incident number.

Keeping a hired device with the intention of depriving us of it is an offence under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, and we report non-returned devices to An Garda Síochána.

10. Security deposit

A refundable deposit is taken in person when you collect, not when you book online.

Rental plan Deposit
Session (4 hours) €100
Daily (8 hours) €100
2 Days (48 hours) €150
Monthly No deposit — see clause 10.1

We return your deposit in full, at the counter, as soon as we have checked the device back in, provided it comes back complete, on time and with no damage beyond fair wear and tear.

If there is damage or something is missing, we will show you what we have found before deducting anything, and we will refund the balance within 5 working days.

A deposit is not a cap on your liability under clause 9, and it is not an excess.

10.1 Monthly rentals

We do not take a deposit on monthly rentals — a deposit large enough to matter on a month-long hire is not reasonable to ask for at a counter.

Instead, monthly rentals are subject to:

  • collection and return in person — we do not post monthly rentals;
  • photo identification checked at collection (clause 5);
  • a signed rental agreement on collection;
  • a completed trial or short rental with us first. We ask this for your benefit as much as ours — a month is a long time to discover the device does not suit you.

Remote or delivered monthly rentals may be possible by separate arrangement. Different terms will apply and we will set them out to you in writing before you commit.

11. Changing or cancelling your booking

Tell us by email to info@exowalk.ie.

When you tell us What happens
More than 48 hours before your rental starts Full refund
More than 24 hours before your rental starts Reschedule to another date, free
Less than 24 hours before, or you do not turn up The rental fee is not refunded

We do not refund early returns, late collections or a change of mind once a rental has begun.

12. Your statutory cancellation rights

Where the law gives you a right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days, we honour it.

Because a rental is booked for a specific date and period, that statutory right may not apply to rental bookings. Whether it does or not, the cancellation terms in clause 11 are given to you as a matter of contract, and nothing in these terms takes away any statutory right you do have.

If you ask us to start a rental within the first 14 days and you then cancel, we may charge you for what you have already used.

13. If we have to cancel

If we cancel because of a national weather warning, a fault across our fleet, or other circumstances beyond our control, we will tell you as soon as we can and you may choose:

  • to reschedule to another date,
  • a credit to use later, or
  • a full refund.

14. Insurance

Our insurance does not cover you. It covers our equipment and our business.

You are responsible for any injury or loss you cause to yourself or to anyone else while using the device. If you want cover for that, arrange it yourself. Check whether your home or personal liability insurance covers hired equipment.

15. Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill — for example if we supply a device we knew to be faulty, or fit it carelessly.

We do not exclude or limit our liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for your statutory rights as a consumer.

We are not liable for loss that was not foreseeable, or for losses connected with your business or trade — we hire these devices for private use.

Using a powered exoskeleton, like walking itself, carries risk. We ask you to use it sensibly, within your own ability, and to stop if something does not feel right.

16. Identity checks and your data

We check photo ID at collection to confirm you are who you say you are and are over 18. We record only the type of document, that it was checked, who checked it and the date. We do not photograph, scan, photocopy or retain your document.

Everything else we hold about you is set out in our Privacy Policy.

17. Ending a rental early

We may end a rental and take the device back if you break these terms in a serious way — for example using it dangerously, lending it to someone else, or refusing to return it. If we do, we will refund the unused part of the rental fee unless our costs exceed it.

18. Complaints, law and courts

Email info@exowalk.ie. We aim to acknowledge within 2 working days.

If we cannot resolve matters, contact the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ccpc.ie), or the European Consumer Centre Ireland (eccireland.ie).

These terms are governed by Irish law. If you are a consumer resident in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country.
